Nestled along the shore of Walloon Lake in northern Michigan, Camp Daggett celebrates the spirit of childhood. Since 1925, Camp Daggett has been providing quality character-building experiences for all ages, with a focus on youth, through educational and recreational programs in a safe and fun environment. Believing that the camp belongs to the children of Charlevoix and Emmet Counties, our educational and recreational offerings spark possibility, confidence, and new skills in a joyful environment.

    We seek:
a dynamic Executive Director who will guide us into our next 100 years with enthusiasm and strategic focus. At this key moment in our history, we are searching for a leader devoted to youth programming, conservation, and our long-term sustainability.

    Key Benefits:
    Employer-paid health insurance
    Paid time off
    Ongoing professional development
Retirement plan with a 3% match

    You are:
enthusiastic about our mission, beliefs, and core values. You possess a mind for business and the belief that outdoor learning experiences can transform a child’s future. Whether your understanding of camp was shaped by quirky 80’s comedies or your own memories of s’mores and singalongs, you’ll see that Camp Daggett is unique in its offerings–and in its charm.

    IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL:

EMPOWER YOUTH: You know that every child benefits from–and deserves–equitable access to outdoor learning experiences. Understanding that outdoor, adventure, and STEAM-based education boosts self-esteem, critical thinking, collaboration, and achievement, you believe that our year-round programs can change lives.

STEWARD LAND AND WATER: You are knowledgeable about conservation, and you’ll lead sustainability efforts on our 135-acre camp. Using our land management plan as your compass, you’ll help us protect our land and water and preserve natural resources.

SUSTAIN OUR FINANCIAL FUTURE: You are at the helm of Camp Daggett’s fiscal health. You’ll oversee annual budgets, financial reporting, and compliance with financial regulations. A rule follower in practice, you facilitate annual internal or external audits in relation to safety, finance, compliance to county/state/federal regulations, and/or compliance to scheduled programs and activities.

REPRESENT US PUBLICLY: You are the face of Camp Daggett. As the charismatic spokesperson for our programs, you engage key audiences in our mission. To strengthen connections with the community, you liaise with prospective campers and families, donors, community groups, educational, nonprofit, and municipal partners as needed.

PRIORITIZE FUND DEVELOPMENT: You are comfortable in the fundraising arena and you engage donors with ease. You’ll identify, cultivate, and steward donor relationships and keep stakeholders enthusiastic about our mission. Working collaboratively with our development team, you understand that annual giving, major gifts cultivation, legacy giving, and grantmaking are essential to our future.

COLLABORATE WITH OUR BOARD OF TRUSTEES: You are inspired by the strategic plan set forth by our board and advance our goals with collaboration and focus. Your communication with our board is prompt, insightful, and candid when the occasion calls for it.

INSPIRE OUR TEAM: You empower our team of employees and volunteers to lean into their strengths and grow. In this capacity, you oversee our leadership team of operations, finance, programming, maintenance, and the recruitment and engagement of employee staff and volunteers. You establish onboarding procedures for new personnel, implement performance standards, conduct performance reviews for senior leadership, and handle personnel concerns as needed.

    Qualifications:
You hold a bachelor’s degree (master’s degree is highly preferred)
You have at least three to five years experience at the senior management level with comparable operations, fundraising, staff management, and budgetary responsibilities.
You possess prior supervisory and leadership experience in the areas of recreation, education, or nonprofit management will be strongly considered.

Note: This position description serves as a general overview of the role's responsibilities and requirements. Duties and expectations may be adjusted to accommodate the organization's evolving needs.
