Certified Mechanic

Purpose:
Perform expert mechanical diagnostics, maintenance, and repair on marine vessels, engines, and systems to ensure safety, reliability, and peak performance. This role supports Irish Boat Shop’s mission to promote recreational boating by delivering high-quality mechanical services aligned with our values of integrity, customer partnership, and technical excellence.

Responsibilities:

• Diagnose and repair engines, drivetrains, and onboard systems, including performing major overhauls, rebuilds, and repowering.
• Conduct routine maintenance, commissioning, and decommissioning of engines and systems, including winterizing at season end.
• Install and repair components, accessories, and hardware on both sail and powerboats.
• Operate workboats, customer vessels, and yard equipment safely to support service operations.
• Maintain a clean, organized work area, adhering to safety and environmental standards.
• Keep personal tools in working order and ready for use on job sites.
• Collaborate with team members and communicate effectively to meet project deadlines.
• Maintain detailed service records and documentation.
• Assist with other duties as needed to support team operations. 

• Experience: 5+ years as a marine technician with a proven track record of diagnosing and repairing engines, systems, and components independently.
• Certification: Current certifications in marine mechanics (e.g., ABYC, NMMA, or manufacturer-specific training) are required.
• Technical Skills: Proficient in reading schematics and technical manuals, with expertise in diagnostics and use of specialized tools.
• Physical Requirements: Ability to lift 50 pounds, climb ladders and stairs, and work in confined spaces or outdoor conditions year-round.
• Communication: Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate clearly and professionally with customers and team members.
• License: Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
