Digging History: Unearth the Past
The Historical Society is offering a unique “stay-cation” event during this December’s holiday break for local residents and visitors. Students of all ages are invited to attend a fun, educational experience at the History Museum, “Digging History: Unearthing the Past,” offered on Saturday, December 28.
Young historians will get the chance to dig through specially prepared “excavation sites” filled with hidden artifacts to learn how – and why – archaeologists work to uncover objects from the past.
The Digging History experience is recommended for grades 1-5, but should be fun for learners of any age. The event, which is free, will include crafts and refreshments as well as the chance to tour the History Museum’s permanent and temporary exhibits, including the fascinating special exhibit, “Fair Wind and Following Seas: The NM Sloop at 90.”
Special Guest - Joining the society during “Digging History” is metal-detectorist Alex Fitol. Alex will be bringing a display of his finds from the local area and will be on-hand to talk with guests about his work, the incredible artifacts he has uncovered and more.
